About me (updated 11/21/05):

I'm an alumni of University of Massachusetts, majored in Japanese and minoring in Linguistics. I graduated this year in May, with an English teaching job secured with Berlitz, in Japan. I moved to Japan in July, and trained on and off at various places until my job got settled. I can now continue with my fighting career.

Training History:
I began training Tae Kwon Do in Pennsylvania as a teenager to be like my childhood heros, and continued for the love of the sport. I did TKD for about two years, then tried my fists at Mark Lawler's Kempo Karate, also in PA. This is where where I began kickboxing sparring.

After I believed I was the absolute coolest thing to fall from the sky, I went to the Dalton Judo Club in Pittsfield, Massassetts and learned what it was like to fly. After three years I acheived a brown belt, but had to leave for college. Just before I left, a Judo brown belt friend named John Wooster brought me to a Royce Gracie Brazilian Jiu-jitsu association in Adams, MA. There, I trained obsessively for three months before moving to The University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

I found the Amherst Athletic club (where New England Submission Fighting is based), owned by Kirik Jenness. For about a year I trained at a Royce Gracie association in Hartford Connecticut, making a weekly two hour round trip with my good friends Eric Kleinberg, Andrew Yao, and James Dunn. We also checked out Jeremy Libiszewski's School of Self-Defense in Wilbraham, MA. That pro-kickboxing and MMA fighter has a great kickboxing class and is an incredible submission grappling instructor.

In Boston during summer break, I found Joao Amaral's New England BJJ club, now associated with Brazilian Top Team. Those guys are tough as concrete is hard, and beat my weaknesses out of me when they found them. I also found Sityodtong Muay Thai academy run by Mark DellaGrotte, and learned great stand up technique there, Thai style.

From September 2003 to June 2004, I did my junior year abroad in Tokyo, Japan. I had the time of my life, and applied my normal routine of "school during the day, and train at night" successfully there. I also did tons of sightseeing, competed in NHB and BJJ competitions, met people from around the world, broke my arm, ate REAL ramen, and spoke lots of Japanese. I'm hoping to write a book someday about my experiences there, but for now, see the "Japan" section on this website.

My plans for the now are to compete against the other talented women fighters across the world in MMA and grappling. For me, it's the ultimate test of what I've learned and am capable of. I'm also training to master Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, and hope to some day achieve a black belt. I love the sport of fighting, and all the raw energy that surrounds it. Women's MMA is picking up, and I'm expecting very good things in the near future. Woman in the Abu Dhabi was a great first step nation wide. I am now in Japan where fighting is more mainstream, so I hope to have better opportunities to fight more tough international fighters.
